There are a number of traits that distinguish Americans from any other culture in the world. One factor that is unique is the philanthropic nature of our citizens. Testimony to that fact is the sheer number of registered nonprofit organizations with the IRS…some 1,064,191 of them.
Americans are generous and they do care about helping others. In fact, total giving in America last year exceeded $295 billion dollars, with $223 billion donated by individuals or families. More importantly, American giving increases every year despite the economic climate. It is a learned behavior a value inherent to the founding of our Nation. When someone is in need, Americans answer the call.
Metamor Charitable Funding operates as a facilitator to public benefit corporations in the transaction of charitable gift annuities. With a proprietary business model, approved by the IRS through two Private Letter Rulings, Metamor affords charities, and the donors who support them, a more secure transaction that maximizes the charitable intent of each and every charitable gift annuity. In so doing, we pave the way for social profit organizations to deliver the services that make them such a vital part of the American consciousness. We broker enhanced philanthropy. We broker stewardship, positive community change and the splendor of humanity. We broker hope.
As a 10 year veteran of the professional fundraising industry, Chad Ettmueller, the President and co-founder of Metamor Charitable Funding, was continually bothered by the concept of the Charitable Gift Annuity. While a great concept, and generous financial gift on behalf of the donor, the product had more risk than immediate value to the issuing charity. More importantly, the product wasn’t even a commercial annuity rather a pooled income fund. There had to be a better way to transact this product.
After 9/11 Chad had grown weary of the fundraising game and left his post as Chief Development Officer with one of the largest social profit corporations in the nation, to join the Structured Settlement industry. It was here that Chad created the business model that would revolutionize the Charitable Gift Annuity marketplace. Combining the commercial annuity expertise of Charles Joyner, the other Metamor co-founder, with his expertise of the planned giving vehicle, Chad identified a model that would maximize the value of CGA donations, while eliminating the associated risks to both the issuing charity and their donor.
While the business model was unique and of great interest to various nonprofits, it was important to secure a Private Letter Ruling from the IRS to verify the transaction posed no adverse tax implications to either the donor or the issuing charity. Partnering with his employer, Atlas Settlement Group, as well as American General Life Insurance Company and a major National nonprofit organization, a request for a Private Letter Ruling was submitted and returned nearly three years later with affirmative conclusions. Subsequently, a pending patent on the business model was secured by Chad and Metamor Charitable Funding took flight
Finally, a solution to planned giving challenges.
This is a business model that poses virtually no risk to any party involved, providing opportunity for charities to realize greater profits which will ultimately translate into a higher volume of gifts. Once American donors realize they can make a gift that not only pays them an annuity for the balance of their life, but also has both immediate mission impact for their favorite cause and leaves a legacy for that same cause, they will be eager to partake. Creating a happy donor is the key to sustained giving and the Metamor CGA model accomplishes just that.
It goes without saying that this product will change the landscape of planned giving and create unprecedented revenue streams for issuing charities.
To that end, Metamor Charitable Funding sits poised to efficiently revolutionize the planned giving marketplace by leveraging the following strengths and core competencies:
- Patent pending business model.
- IRS Private Letter Ruling supporting the critical gift annuity transaction model and premise that no adverse tax consequences come to bear upon the donor or issuing charity.
- Blended work history of more than 40 years between both the nonprofit and commercial annuity industries.
- An in depth knowledge of the current product restrictions, ACGA guidelines and associated risks and concerns of both the Development professionals and Board of Directors charged with the appropriate management of charitable donations.
- Access to the largest, most highly rated life insurance companies in the world, backed by a multi year history of top production in other commercial annuity markets.
